1. Whats your name and where are you from?
Tiffanie from Seattle, residing in Rogers, Arkansas
2. What inspired you to go natural?
I'd been thinking of going natural since I was a sophomore in college...but was afraid. After talking with 3 friends that were natural, but wore their hair straight 100% of the time, I decided to take the plunge! I'm so thankful for Howard's Homecoming 2007! Lol.
3. How did you transition into a natural and how long have you been natural?
I transitioned with presses for the first 6 months, kinky twists for 2 months after that, and twist outs up until my final mini-chop. I chopped off my last pieces of relaxed ends in July 2009. So I've been 100% natural for about 2 months. I transitioned for 21 months.
4. What do you like most about being natural?
I LOVE the versatility. I can wear my hair kinky, fluffy, large and in charge...or flat ironed and full of bouncy curls. My hair is now more than ever a reflection of me, not of what I think it "should" be.
5. What are your favorite styles and why?
I LOVE my twist out! By far my staple style. It's easy to do, and lasts for at least a week. Call me lazy, but I love waking up and being able to shake and go. I don't retwist at night like some, so a 2 hour investment of time ends up lasting for over a week. I think that's a GREAT return on investment!
6. Are you into fashion, if so, how do you describe your style?
I am into fashion...though I work in manufacturing so you can't tell during the work week. BUT, I'd describe myself as funky, flirty, and totally random. I'm a cross between the girl next door, the jock, and the fashionista...all on a budget! I love a good bargain, and have a love affair with stillettos!
7. How do the people around you feel about your hair now?
Some love it, some hate it. My mom hates "nappy hair", most of my friends prefer the "straight haired" Tiffanie, but the guy I'm dating appreciates both. Although I care deeply about all of the groups of people mentioned above...it's not about them! I love my hair, and that's all that matters.
8.What kind of makeup do use, if any?
Lots! I love Bobbi Brown, MAC, and Make up Forever. My everyday look consists of facial powder, blush, and mascara.
9. What are your fave products and where do you purchase them?
I love Blended Beauty's Happy Nappy Styles and Curl Cleansing Conditioners. I get them both from SistasPlace.net. I also use Herbal Essences Hello Hydration and Long Term Relationship conditioners. I get those from Walmart!
10. What's the best advice given to you on ways to manage your hair?
Be patient. Don't touch your hair when you're tired or having a bad hair day, at least if you have type 4 hair. If you comb your hair when frustrated you probably won't be as gentle. Also, invest in a good conditioner. My hair loves thick and creamy conditioners. When I spoil my hair, she spoils me!;)
